4. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians failed to get their act together in the 2022 season and struggled to string consecutive wins under their belt. As a result, they were the wooden spoon holders of the competition with four wins in 14 matches. In a bid to revamp their squad, MI have released a total of 13 players including Kieron Pollard, who has hung his boots in the IPL arena. 

In the spin department, MI have persisted with Kumar Kartikeya and Hrithik Shokeen, and let go of leg-spinners Mayank Markande and Murugan Ashwin. Kartikeya featured in four games last season and bagged five wickets at an economy of 7.85. Shokeen, on the other hand, picked up two wickets in five games at an economy of 8.47.

Though the young spinners have shown promise in the limited outings they have played for the five-time IPL champions, their lack of experience of playing on the big stage could go against them. Therefore, MI would like to add a veteran spinner to their arsenal.

So, the think tank could look at someone like Rashid, who comes with an experience of 248 T20 matches and has carried the mantle of England’s spin attack in limited-over cricket for over a decade. Thus, the Mumbai franchise might raise their paddle to pick the leg-spinner at the auction.
