Rating Team India's jerseys in T20 World Cup history

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on September 18 (Sunday) unveiled team India's new jersey for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup. Talking about the new jersey, the front of the kit has light tones of Azure Blue while the sleeves feature dark tones of Royal Blue. The Men in Blue will be seen donning the same jersey in the upcoming T20I series against both Australia and South Africa before heading towards the T20 World Cup. In the wake of Team India getting a new jersey ahead of this year's T20 World Cup, let us take a look and rate the T20 kits won by the Indian team during the T20 World Cups. Rating team India's jerseys in T20 World Cup history: 7. 2007 T20 World Cup (9/10) The inaugural edition of the 2007 T20 World Cup was special for every Indian fan as the Men in Blue defeated all the odds to be crowned the first T20 champions. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the Men in Blue played some extraordinary cricket and lifted the cup. Team India donned a traditional light blue jersey which was being used for ODI matches as well. There was a tri-colour pattern on the side of the jersey with “India” written in yellow near the chest area. As mentioned above, the Men in Blue played some excellent cricket throughout the tournament and they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the final match to be crowned T20 champions. 6. 2009 and 2010 T20 World Cup (6/10) Unlike the jersey during the 2007 T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue wore a darker shade of Blue during the 2009 and 2010 T20 World Cups. The collars of the jerseys were orange with the colors of the national flag being designed in a strip on one side. The Men in Blue had very disappointing outings in both the World Cups as they failed to reach the semi-finals in both tournaments. While Pakistan won the 2009 T20 World Cup after defeating Sri Lanka in the final match, team England was crowned champions in 2010 as they defeated arch-rivals Australia in the final match of the tournament. 5. 2012 T20 World Cup (7/10) Team India donned a similar kind of jersey that they used during their 2011 World Cup triumph. Unlike the 2009 and 2010 T20 World Cups, the Men in Blue switched back to a lighter shade. The Men in Blue played some decent cricket throughout the tournament and lost just one match after defeating Afghanistan, England, and South Africa. However, team India crashed out of the tournament due to the poor net run rate. West Indies, under the leadership of Daren Sammy went on to win the competition after defeating the home team Sri Lanka in the final match of the tournament. 4. 2014 T20 World Cup (8/10) Just like the 2012 T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue used a similar kind of jersey for their 2014 campaign. The light blue shade was retained although the jersey had a slightly darker shade. There was also an attractive tri-colour pattern on the shoulders with 'India' written in the middle of the t-shirt. The Men in Blue had an excellent outing during the tournament with their star batter Virat Kohli in red-hot form. However, the Men in Blue had to suffer a heartbreaking loss in the final against Sri Lanka. Team India senior batter Yuvraj Singh was heavily criticized for his slow batting in the final match as India could not replicate their 2007 T20 World Cup antics. 3. 2016 T20 World Cup (9/10) Team India had one of the coolest jerseys for the 2016 T20 World Cup. Hosting the tournament, the home team donned a classic blue color, and stylish orange stripes near the shoulders gave it a supreme look. Despite playing so well in the tournament, a rampant West Indies side ended team India's T20 World Cup campaign after they thrashed the home team in the semi-final encounter played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The Men in Maroon eventually went on to win the competition after defeating England in the final match. All-rounder Carlos Brathwaite smashed four consecutive sixes to Ben Stokes in the final over to seal the game for his team. 2. 2021 T20 World Cup (6/10) Team India went back to a darker shade of blue for their 2021 T20 World Cup. The jersey also had a running pattern on it, while the colour inside the collar was orange. Just like the previous jerseys, 'India' was printed in the middle with an orange shade. Team India had a very poor outing during that tournament as they lost their first match against the arch-rivals Pakistan by 10 wickets. Not only that, but the Men in Blue also suffered a defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their second encounter. The Men in Blue defeated Scotland, Namibia and Afghanistan in their remaining group stage matches but that was not enough for them to qualify for the next stage as they got knocked out of the competition after the group stage encounters. 1. 2022 T20 World Cup (9/10) As mentioned above, BCCI on September 18 (Sunday) unveiled team India's new jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Talking about the new t-shirt, the front of the jersey has light tones of Azure Blue while the sleeves feature dark tones of Royal Blue. The kit sponsors had stated that the jersey pays homage to the legions of fans that span different genders and age groups and transcend geographical borders. The Men in Blue will be seen donning the same jersey in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia on September 20. The same jersey will also be used during a T20I series against South Africa slated next.
