The Hundred League Brand Value: Year-wise growth & trends from 2021 to 2025
Launched in 2016 and commenced in 2021, the tournament has grown every year and attracted star-studded players, despite criticism and financial uncertainties.
The Hundred, England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) innovative and new 100-ball competition, has triggered massive debate about its financial potential, profitability, and brand value since its beginning. Launched in 2016 and commenced in 2021, the tournament has grown every year and attracted star-studded players, despite criticism and financial uncertainties. With massive private investments rolling in ahead of the 2025 edition, The Hundred is now valued close to 1 billion Euros.
The Hundred canceled in 2020:
The inaugural season of The Hundred was scheduled for 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to its cancellation, leading to a delay in launch and pushing back all projected revenues and plans. The ECB suffered losses due to the impact of the pandemic across the sport, with county cricket taking a significant financial hit.
The Hundred suffers loss:
The Hundred officially launched in 2021, and while the ECB declared a profit of approximately 10 million Euros, an independent review by chartered accountant Fanos Hira and ECB chair Richard Thompson disputed this, revealing that the competition made a 9 million Euros loss across the first two seasons (2021-2022). Moreover, this review did not include the 24.7 million Euros payout made by the ECB to the countries and MCC for supporting the tournament.
ECB reports profit in 2022:
In 2022, the ECB reported an 11.8 million Euros profit, according to ECB Official Financial Report. Despite the profits, many questioned whether the accounting practices continued, particularly on unreported operational costs and generous payouts to stakeholders. Notably, this was the first full season to indicate The Hundred's commercial potential, especially in terms of domestic viewership and ticket sales.

2023 profit extended:
The ECB reported a 15 million Euros profit in 2023, showing year-on-year growth. However, financial experts continued to question the projections. According to a Brand Finance report, The Hundred's brand value was estimated at USD 508 million, lower than the IPL’s USD 10.68 billion. ECB’s financial projections were criticized by figures like IPL founder Lalit Modi, who mentioned that the league didn’t match even the Caribbean Premier League in terms of commercial value.
