With regular skipper Beth Mooney’s exclusion from the squad due to a calf injury, Gujarat Giants (GG) appointed the veteran Sneh Rana as their captain. Taking charge of the team after a humiliating defeat against MI in the tournament opener, her task was to raise the playing standards of the team.
Under the new leader, GG lacked confidence as they lost their second game against UP Warriorz by three wickets, courtesy of Grace Harris’s outstanding match-finishing knock (unbeaten 59 runs off 26 deliveries). At the end of the league stage, the points table clearly indicated that Rana’s leadership was not up to the mark as GG lingered at the bottom of the points table.
With two wins and six defeats in eight matches, Giants had a disastrous outing under Rana’s supervision. Along with captaincy, her job was to fortify her team’s spin-bowling unit but in that area too, she failed to be impactful. Hunting only six scalps in eight matches at an expensive economy of 8.58, the 29-year-old couldn't smoothen things down for her team.
