The second Test match at Perth saw a lot of seam movement and good bounce owing on offer from the green surface. While the Indian bowlers failed to cash in at the start, they did get into the groove as the day progressed. Earlier in the morning, Australian openers Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris put up a 112-run stand for the first wicket. India who went in with four pacers might have rued not playing a specialist spinner on the surface.

Hanuma Vihari went on to take a couple of wickets. However, the Indian quicks too had their moments in the game. Ishant Sharma was the pick amongst the bowlers with 2/35. Mohammed Shami bowled well but failed to get a wicket. Jasprit Bumrah was also quite fluent with his line and lengths. Umesh Yadav managed to pick a wicket as well.

You have to be really proactive batting here and not get stuck

Finch scored a half century before being trapped in front of the stumps by Bumrah. Speaking about how the wicket behaved, Finch remarked that they waited for the deliveries to come in their stride. He felt that a batsman who came in with two minds was more likely to get out on this surface.

“When the ball starts seaming off good parts of the wicket and quite dramatically at times, I think that’s when you know you need to tighten up. But you also have to be in a position to cash in on some balls that you can hit. Otherwise you get stuck on the crease, stuck in two minds and end up getting out. So you have to be really proactive,” he said.
