The Indian Premier League is believed to be one of the biggest cricketing carnivals all around the globe ever since its inaugural season in 2008. It not only comes with the highest quality of cricket but always has a lot more to offer. The immense amount of entertainment, controversies, and madness on display drives cricket fans crazy throughout the 1 and a half month fiesta.

We got another example of its impact when a prisoner received harsh treatment from his fellow prisoners in Udupi prison on Saturday night. Going by the name of Tony James, a prisoner at the district jail at Anjar village near Hiriyadka of Udupi district was ganged up and thrashed by six other prisoners for his will to continue watching an IPL match.

What exactly happened:

According to the superintendent of the district Jail, N.S Shivkumar, Tony James from Kerala kept on watching the IPL match till midnight which caused disturbance to the others who were trying to get some sleep. James was moved to Anjar Jail from Mangalore just about three days ago told Mr. Shivkumar to The Hindu.

The disturbance resulted in five-six other prisoners lose their temper as they went on to snatch the remote from James. When James tried to keep hold of the remote and refused to give up he was pushed, humiliated and taught a lesson. James fell victim to a few injuries during the process.

The Jail staff came into action immediately and shifted the abused prisoner to another cell at night to avoid further disputes. Tony James was then taken to the District Government Hospital in Udupi for treatment when he reported of pain in the morning. Shivkumar stated that he was brought into the jail because of his connection with an attempt to murder case which has its roots in 2012.

District Surgeon Madhusudhan Nayak told The Hindu that James had wounds on his lips and was found to have lost two of his teeth. James also complained of injuries on his back, but quite fortunately for the cricket loving prisoner, no fractures were caught in the X-ray.
