Cricket has gone through a Revolution, Says former Indian Captain, Kapil Dev: Since the inception of the shorter and perhaps the shortest formats of the game, Cricket has gone through a sea of changes. Also, as a matter of fact, innovations have also been made over several aspects of the game. Starting from the rules of the game to the equipment of technique and theories, nothing has remained stagnant. We are into an era of revolutionized form of Cricket and very soon, we are to experience days where Test Cricket is going to be played under lights and in the process the colour of the Test ball might take a change from red to pink.

On this very note, the former captain of the Indian World Cup winning team, Kapil Dev agrees to such drastic changes in the game but he laments on to the fact that swing bowling, the art, where he mastered, has been at the receiving end.

The former swing bowler sees the changing aspects of the game on both ways. He even mentioned of the fact that plenty of people call it to be the same game to what it was back in the days of Kapil Dev. But he denies the logic about this fact.

The former all-rounder added, “I think the players have become much stronger, the equipment has changed quite a bit. So, it’s wonderful to see that. New ideas, new things and approach to the game has changed. Some of the things have really improved.”

The thing which hurts Kapil Dev is the fact that it was the swing bowling that had to be compromised in these twist of changes in the game. He added that swing bowling has now seemed to be fading away and bowlers are much more concentrated on being economical and thus emphasis on the swinging aspects of bowling seems to be faded.

The leading fast bowling all-rounder of India also added, “As a swing bowler, I would say swing has not come back; it has gone out of the system.”

The former Captain also believes that even the players seem to have adapted to the changes and things are getting revolutionized.

He finally added, “We have never seen in 100 years what we have seen in last five years. The game has come to an age where you have to keep on trying doing something different to enjoy it, and the people can talk about that.”
