Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history as he became the fourth-youngest cricketer to make his debut in the Ranji Trophy. At the age of 12 years and 284 days, Suryavanshi stepped out to play for Bihar against Mumbai at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna. Soon after his debut, Vaibhav went viral on social media as many expressed their shock to see the young cricketer playing the longest-running red-ball tournament in the country.

Vaibhav is a regular for India B U19 and has half-centuries against Bangladesh U19 and England U19 in 2023. Looking at his progress in national colours and in the Coochbehar Trophy, where he scored 151 runs off 128 deliveries against Jharkhand, Bihar selectors gave him a chance in the ongoing Ranji season.

Meanwhile, Vaibhav's father said that it is a matter of pride to see his child play against some of the notable names of Indian cricket in the form of Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube and Dhawal Kulkarni. He added that his son likes to play an aggressive brand of cricket and is confident of him doing well in the ongoing season.

Mumbai post 235/9 on Day 1

Bhupen Lalwani and Suved Parker’s half-centuries helped Mumbai set the tone in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. When all the other batters were struggling in the middle, the duo stitched a crucial 91-run partnership, which helped the Shams Mulani-led side post 235/9 on Day 1. Towards the fag end of the day, Tanush Kotian played some brilliant cricket as he scored 50 runs off 69 deliveries. His knock took Mumbai to a respectable position as they struggled with the bat for the majority of the time.

With the ball, Veer Pratap Singh was on song. He picked up four wickets while Sakibul Gani and Himanshu Singh picked up two wickets each. They would look forward to picking up the final wicket of Mumbai in the early hours of January 6 and then put pressure on them with the bat.
