17-year-old girl lodges rape complaint against Nepal captain Sandeep Lamichhane

Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has found himself in troubled waters. A minor, 17-year-old girl, has lodged a rape complaint against him. The police has also confirmed the development stating that District Police range Kathmandu has receivied the complaint against the said cricketer.

The girl, in her complaint, has stated that Sandeep raped her on August 21 at a hotel in Kathmandu. She has also claimed that she got to know about the Nepal skipper through her friend and she went to Nagarkot with Lamichhane on August 17.

Sandeep Lamichhane left for Kenya on August 22 to lead his side in the five-match T20I series against the home side. Nepal won the series 3-2 and then the 22-year-old left for West Indies to feature in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Girl under police protection and underwent health check-up

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old girl is under police protection after she lodged the complaint and has undergone required health check-up. AIG Rabindra Singh Dhanuk at Kathmandu Valley Police Office confirmed the news while talking the Setopati, Nepal's Digital Newspaper. 

"A rape complaint has been filed against Sandeep Lamichhane. It’s a minor’s complaint, I will give further details regarding this tomorrow. The victim’s health check-up has also been performed this evening," Dhanuk said. The development has also been confirmed by several other police officers at Kathmandu Police Range, Kathmandu Valley Police and Nepal Police Headquarters as well.

It remains to be seen now if the Nepal Cricket Association takes any action against their captain Sandeep Lamichhane. It will also interesting to see if the cricketer is summoned to report to the police station in the middle of his stint in the CPL. He is yet to provide any statement on the allegations made as well. As for Sandeep, he hasn't got a chance in two matches Jamaica Tallawahs, his CPL team, has played so far.
