Reports: 17-year-old strangles boy for dismissing him during cricket match in Kanpur

In a horrifying incident in Kanpur, a 17-year-old strangled a 14-year-old boy, after the latter bowled him out during a cricket match. The incident happened on Monday, June 20, and the victim reportedly died right there on the pitch. It happened in the Rahti Dera village of the Ghatampur area of the district. 

The 17-year-old who is the accused, along with his brother, are both on the run. Several reports stated that the accused got upset after the 14-year-old bowled him out while both of them were playing a cricket match. However, being upset, the 17-year-old boy refused to leave the pitch after being dismissed, which led to a verbal duel between the both. 

Furthermore, the verbal duel escalated after the accused called upon his brother, and both started to beat up the victim. After the severe assault, both brothers pinned the victim to the floor and strangled him, according to the police. The incident was reported to the victim’s family by the other boys present on the field. The family then rushed the boy to Ghatampur Hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors.

As the family returned home with the body, the local Kotwali in charge, Vikram Singh, came to the scene and tried to take possession of the body for the postmortem. However, the family denied it and created a ruckus about it. Furthermore, they also refused to perform the victim’s final rites unless the accused was arrested.

After being persuaded for more than four hours, the victim’s family finally gave in to the autopsy and even filed a complaint at the Ghatampur Kotwali police station. Reflecting upon the same, ACP Dinesh Shukla said, "An FIR has been lodged under relevant IPC sections in this case. Raids are underway to detain the accused and his brother involved in the crime."

There is more to the matter when it is revealed that the victim has two brothers and four sisters, and several reports also state that the victim’s aunt was beaten to death by the accused family three years ago.
