'Aaj Sunday hai kya?' Irfan Pathan takes a dig at Pakistan after Women's Asia Cup humiliation

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was quick to add a cheeky twist to India’s latest dominant victory over Pakistan, taking a playful dig at the arch-rivals following their seven-wicket win in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 on Saturday.

Soon after India wrapped up a comprehensive victory in their Group A encounter, the former India all-rounder took to X and posted four words that immediately caught the attention of fans.

“Aaj Sunday hai kya?” Pathan tweeted.

Pathan’s post was a clear reference to his social media banter from last year, when he regularly poked fun at Pakistan after India defeated the Men in Green in three T20Is played on consecutive Sundays. Following those wins, Pathan had posted, “Sunday kaisa raha padosiyo,” turning the line into a popular recurring jibe aimed at Pakistan.

Pathan’s latest post came after India’s bowlers completely dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up, with young spinners Shree Charani and Prema Rawat emerging as the standout performers.

Pakistan were bundled out for just 55 in 18.1 overs, their lowest-ever total in T20 cricket. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur turned to spin after recognising the assistance on offer from the surface, and the move paid immediate dividends.

Charani, the 22-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner, returned excellent figures of 3/7 in four overs, while leg-spinner Prema Rawat claimed 3/9 from her four-over spell. Shafali Verma also contributed with 1/10 in three overs, before Deepti Sharma finished the innings with 2/5 in 3.1 overs.

Pakistan had made a decent start, reaching 27/0 after just over four overs, with Muneeba Ali and Shawaal Zulfiqar scoring 13 and 14 respectively. However, once the opening partnership was broken, the innings completely fell apart.

Pakistan went from 27/0 to 36/6, losing six wickets for just nine runs. India's bowlers also delivered 78 dot balls across Pakistan's 18.1 overs, ensuring there was virtually no opportunity for a recovery.

The contest was also significant for Harmanpreet, who became the first international captain, male or female, to lead India in 150 T20Is. She celebrated the landmark occasion with another commanding performance from her team before playing a key role in completing the chase.

Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on 18, while Deepti Sharma scored 12 not out as India sealed yet another emphatic victory over their arch-rivals. The result further strengthened India's impressive record against Pakistan in the Women's T20 Asia Cup. India have now won seven of their eight matches against Pakistan in the competition, with Pakistan's solitary victory coming in one of those encounters.
