After World Cup, Chandika Hathurusingha wanted to do bit of dictatorship: Khaled Mahmud

"I feel Hathu is one of the best coaches I have seen. From planning or sincerity, his focus and determination to work - I feel he was always a coach and 24/7, he is a coach," Mahmud said.

Former Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud hailed head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and called him one of the best coaches he has ever seen. The former Bangladesh skipper added that Hathurusingha is sincere, focused and determined to work as a coach, which will help the team communicate better. Mahmud believes that the 55-year-old used to be hot-headed previously, but believes that he has improved significantly.

Nevertheless, Mahmud also pointed out some flaws of Hathurusingha and stated that he wanted to do a "bit of dictatorship" in the last ODI World Cup in India. Notably, Bangladesh failed to put up a show in the marquee tournament as they finished eighth on the points table. Meanwhile, Mahmud added that Hathurusingha needs to get better in man-management skills as he is already a terrific coach.

“I feel Hathu is one of the best coaches I have seen. From planning or sincerity, his focus and determination to work - I feel he was always a coach and 24/7, he is a coach. But yes, previously (previous term) when I saw him, I felt he was a bit hot-headed. After this World Cup, I felt he wanted to do a little bit of dictatorship, leading things,” Hathurusingha was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

“I feel that when you are a head coach, you will have to shelter everyone. When you become a big umbrella, you have to fit in everyone under your shelter. If you don't do it, it's a problem. I feel that he needs to maintain his man management better. I could be mistaken, but that's what I feel. As a coach, he is a very good coach for us,” he added.

We could not recover from the Netherlands defeat: Mahmud

Speaking about their poor performance in the ODI World Cup, Mahmud revealed that the team couldn’t recover from their embarrassing defeat against Netherlands. He mentioned that given the squad they had, Bangladesh should have performed better but the players did not rise up to the occasion.

“I am not pleased even though we won two matches. The brand of cricket we were playing was not what I felt (we should have done at the World Cup). We could not recover from the Netherlands defeat,” Mahmud added.
