Legendary England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has been named the new head coach of the England Lions men's team. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the appointment on Saturday, September 7. The England Lions, serving as the nation's second-tier team, is a crucial platform for emerging talents.
The 46-year-old, who played 79 Tests for England, faced a life-threatening car accident in December 2022 while filming for the TV show "Top Gear." His return to cricket in various coaching capacities since 2023 has been nothing short of inspirational.
The Lancashire-born's new role is comprehensive and demanding. Flintoff will lead the Lions on tours to South Africa and Australia, with the latter serving as a crucial preparatory mission for the 2025-26 Ashes series. His responsibilities also see him encompassing performance planning, player development reviews, team selection, and player appraisals.
