Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the third and final match of India's home ODI series against West Indies after sustaining a hamstring injury during the second fixture. Krishna was bowling in Guwahati on September 30 when the injury forced him off the field after just five overs. India still won that match comfortably, by eight wickets, but the setback means Krishna will play no further part in the series.

Reports confirm that Chennai Super Kings pacer Anshul Kamboj has been drafted into the squad as his replacement. Krishna will not make the journey to New Chandigarh, where the series decider is set for October 3.

What has Kamboj been doing ahead of this call-up?

Before receiving the national call-up, Kamboj was on duty with India A. In the first innings of his most recent India A appearance, he sent down 17.3 overs and returned figures of 3 wickets for 34 runs. He followed that with a two-over spell in the second innings, giving away just 3 runs. He departed the India A camp on Thursday once the replacement was confirmed.

Kamboj's broader recent record adds weight to his selection. He was the leading wicket-taker for Chennai Super Kings across the 2026 Indian Premier League season. At international level, his only appearance so far has been a Test match against England in Manchester in July 2025. A white-ball cap for India has not yet come his way, so this squad inclusion represents a genuine step forward in his international career.

Will Kamboj get a chance to play in the third ODI?

A place in the playing XI for October 3 is far from certain for Kamboj. Mohammed Siraj was already in India's ODI squad for this series but sat out both the first and second matches without getting an opportunity. Siraj remains the frontrunner to step into the XI in Krishna's absence.

There is, however, a scenario in which Kamboj could earn his first white-ball appearance for India. Should the team management choose to leave out Auqib Nabi Dar following his showing on debut, a second bowling slot could open up alongside Siraj. India head into the New Chandigarh fixture leading the series and will be looking to close it out on Saturday.
