Arun Dhumal to remain chairman for another year as he is likely to be re-elected to IPL GC

The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auctions are around the corner, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) with some key decisions in making. The meeting, scheduled for Sunday, September 29, in Bengaluru, is expected to bring continuity to the IPL Governing Council (GC) with the re-election of Arun Singh Dhumal and Abhishek Dalmiya.

The election of two representatives to the IPL GC is an annual affair at the BCCI's AGM. This year, Dhumal and Dalmiya have filed their nominations for the positions. Hence, with no other contenders in sight, they are set to be elected unopposed.

Dhumal is likely to continue his role as the IPL Chairman for at least another year. The IPL Governing Council, under his leadership, will be tasked with addressing critical issues such as player retention and salary caps in the coming months.

The election of new BCCI secretary is not on the current agenda

In addition to the GC members, the AGM will also confirm the Indian Cricketers' Association (ICA) representative. V Chamundeswaranath, a former Andhra and South Zone cricketer, has been renominated by the ICA for this position, as confirmed by the ICA Secretary, Hitesh Muzumdar.

Furthermore, the AGM's agenda is the appointment of the BCCI's representative to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Currently, Jay Shah holds this position, but he is set to become the Independent Chairman of the ICC. This change requires the selection of a new BCCI representative, with the possibility of appointing two candidates to ensure a smooth handover once Shah takes up his new role in Dubai.

While the AGM will address these pressing matters, it's worth noting that the election of a new BCCI secretary to succeed Shah is not on the current agenda. This important decision will require a Special General Meeting (SGM) to be convened, likely around January 15, following Shah is expected to step down by the end of November.
