In a thrilling finale at the Dubai International Stadium on September 28, 2025, India lifted their ninth Asia Cup title, going past arch-rivals Pakistan by five wickets with just two balls to spare. The victory concluded a solid campaign for India, which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament.

Pakistan, electing to bat first, started well and looked to post a big total. At 113 for 1 in the 13th over, with Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) going all out, they appeared to push the total over the 200-run mark.

However, India’s bowlers showed remarkable fight. Kuldeep Yadav’s magical spell (4/30) and Varun Chakravarthy’s breakthroughs put Pakistan on the back foot, triggering a collapse where they lost nine wickets for just 33 runs. From a commanding position, Pakistan were bundled out for 146 in 19.1 overs. Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with two wickets, including a dismissal of Haris Rauf.

Chasing 147, India’s innings began on a negative note. Early wickets by Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Afridi put the Men in Blue struggling at 25 for 3 inside the powerplay. India was further put under pressure when Sanju Samson (24) departed, with the scorecard reading 77 for 4.

However, Tilak Varma’s 69 not out off 53 balls anchored the chase. Tilak rotated strike smartly and picked boundaries at crucial moments. He found support in Shivam Dube (33 off 22), whose late cameo, including an essential six off Haris Rauf, tilted the game back in India’s favor. With 10 needed off the last over, Tilak guided India home at 150/5 in 19.4 overs.

Who Said What?

Abhishek Sharma, Player of the Tournament

Getting a car is always a pleasure. Getting into this team after winning the World Cup wasn't easy for any opener, I worked very hard on my game and you need the support of the coach and captain, I was getting that from the start of the tournament. If I get a start, my team should win. Sometimes you are going to fail but you have to follow the process. I had a plan if I get the spinners in the powerplay I will try to use the powerplay, even any premium fast bowlers, I would go from the first ball no matter who's the bowler

Tilak Varma, Player of the Match

It was pressure. They were bowling well. They were mixing the pace up. I was breathing up and trying to stay calm. Fantastic knock from Samson. The way Dube batted under pressure was important for the country. We have prepared for eveey position. You should be flexible. I was prepared to bat at any order. Was backing my game. When the wickets are on the slower side, have talked to Gauti sir and have worked hard. One of the most special knocks of my life. Chak De India.

Salman Agha, Pakistan (Losing Captain)

It was tough pill to swallow right now. We lost wickets while batting, we were outstanding with the ball but didn't enough runs on the board. We didn't rotate strike and lost too many wickets. We have to sort out our batting very soon. They bowled outstandingly well, they needed 63 from 6 overs and I thought we had the game. But the batting was what cost us the game. I am very proud of the team and there is so much to look forward to, we will work hard and come back stronger.
