Following their disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, the defending champions Australia were eliminated early from the competition. Their arch-rivals England eventually defeated Pakistan in the finals to clinch the trophy at Australia’s den. Thus, the Jos Buttler-led side will be full of confidence when they take on Australia in a three-match ODI series, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday, November 17.

Following Aaron Finch’s retirement from 50-overs cricket, Pat Cummins has been appointed as the new leader and this will be his first official assignment. David Warner, who was close to becoming the new captain will continue as a player but may chip in, in case Cummins misses out.

Following their early exit from the marquee tournament, the Kangaroos got enough time to rest, prepare and plan for the series. The series will mark the start of their preparation for next year’s ODI World Cup and thus, the boys will be charged up to cement their place in the playing XI.

England, on the other hand, will be much more relaxed following their success in the recently concluded mega event. They have a set template in white-ball cricket and would once again back that to find success on Australian soil.

The likes of Phil Salt, Olly Stone, James Vince, David Willey, Luke Wood, Sam Billings and Liam Dawson are likely to get more opportunities as other players might be rested in the first match. There’s just a gap of four days between their T20 World Cup final and the beginning of the ODI series and thus, the English players will be tired to play a 100-overs game. Nevertheless, captain Jos Buttler is ready to take the challenge.
