Bangladesh announce squad for England T20Is, include 3 uncapped players

England are leading the 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh by 1-0. The T20 series will kick-start on 9 March, with the first match scheduled to be played at Chittagong.

Bangladesh announced their squad for the three-match T20I series against England, scheduled to be played later this month. For the series, they have called up three uncapped players to join the squad. Batsman Towhid Hridoy, pacer Rejaur Rahman Raja, and left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam are the three players included in the team, following their stunning performances in the recently held Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). 

Apart from them, batters Shamim Hossain and Rony Talukdar have also been recalled to the team after an impressive spell in BPL. Hossain makes a comeback having last played for Bangladesh in November 2021. Meanwhile, Rony's only T20 international was against South Africa in 2015.

Batters Yasir Ali, Soumya Sarkar, all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain and pacers Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam have been excluded from the squad. Notably, they all were part of the Bangladesh squad for the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia in November last year.

The first match of the T20 series is scheduled to be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on March 9. The second and the third match will be held at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, on March 12 and March 14 respectively. 

This will be the first bilateral T20 international series between Bangladesh and England.

Bangladesh squad for England T20Is: Shakib Al Hasan (Capt), Liton Das, Najmul Hossain, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nasum Ahmed, Nurul Hasan, Shamim Hossain, Rony Talukdar, Towhid Hridoy, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Tanvir Islam.

England won 1st ODI by 3 wickets

Talking about the ODI series, England won the first ODI beating Bangladesh by three wickets at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, March 1. With the win, the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI will be played at the same stadium on March 3.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. While top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a steady fifty, none of the other batters except Mahmudullah and Tamim Iqbal managed to spend much time in the middle. Tailenders Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam scored 14 and 10 respectively to take the hosts post the 200-run mark. Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took two wickets each.

England were given a target of 210 runs, chasing which, England, too, got off to a shaky start, losing wickets at regular intervals. It was only David Malan who camped on one end to keep the runs coming. Malan played one of his finest ODI innings to take England across the line, with 3 wickets and 8 balls remaining. Malan's innings of 114* had 4 sixes and 8 fours. For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam took three wickets.

ith Dawid Malan (114*) playing the best innings of his ODI career, the Jos Buttler-led side posted 212 for 7. England restricted the hosts to 209 with eight balls remaining.
