Bangladesh Cricket Board director Khaled Mahmud Sujon resigns from position

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director, Khaled Mahmud Sujon resigned from the post on Wednesday, September 11. Before the BCB Director’s role, he was also the chairman of the Game Development Committee. The 53-year-old was also the vice-president of the Cricket Operations Committee. His resignation comes as the political turmoil in the country has shifted the nation's landscape, leaving an impact on cricket too. 

Sujon’s resignation is part of the domino effect that several BCB officials were subjected to. Former Directors Jalal Yunus and Naimur Rahman Durjoy had previously resigned from their posts. Sujon’s resignation makes it the third resignation after the political shift where PM Sheikh Hasina fled the country sensing a civilian uproar.

According to The Daily Star, Sujon sent an email to the BCB president about his decision, a BCB official who chose not to reveal his name stated. Faruque Ahmed, who replaced the longstanding Nazmul Hasan Papon as the new president of BCB, has openly demanded a change in the system and vowed to create one. He also came hard at the former Bangladesh coach, Chandika Hathurusingha.

"I resigned as a selector in the past because I opposed the system. Now, I aim to create a system that can run the board smoothly. I am not sure about the details of the contract with Chandika Hathurusingha. I am still in the same place I was before. I haven't deviated from what I said (I will not keep Chandika if elected as BCB president),” Faruque had said.

Bangladesh's India tour beckons

Amidst the turmoil, the Bangladesh men's cricket team has been performing on a high note. Most recently, they beat Pakistan in Pakistan in a two-match Test series by 2-0. High on confidence, they now take on India in India, again in a two-match Test series starting from September 19 in Chennai followed by the second Test in Kanpur.
