Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal has opened up on his frustration with his side not being allowed to tour England and Australia more often. Bangladesh have not toured England for a bilateral series since 2010, when they played two Tests and three ODIs in the European country. Notably, Tamim scored centuries in both the Test matches played at Lord’s and Old Trafford despite Bangladesh losing on both occasions.
Bangladesh’s last bilateral tour to Australia was a three-match ODI series in 2008. Meanwhile, they will travel to Australia for two Tests in 2027. However, they are not due to play a bilateral series against England on English soil, anytime soon.
While speaking to UK’s Daily Mirror, Tamim recalled his knock against England in the two Tests in 2010. He said that it was not an easy task to score a century in England and he will cherish that memory forever. The 33-year-old added that his side wants to tour Australia and England more often.
"That's a long way away now, 2010. But those innings I will always remember. Scoring a hundred in England is not easy, especially for a team like us. The memories are something that, when I've finished cricket, I will take forever in my heart,” Tamim told the UK's Daily Mirror.
"Those two are really close to my heart, but the most important thing is you guys need to invite us more often. That was the last time we played there, which is unfortunate. Bangladesh is in a situation now where we should tour Australia and England more often and I don't know why that doesn't happen. It's been 13 years now and we haven't been back to England. It's sad actually that we haven't toured again after doing so well, especially in white-ball cricket," he added.
England to host Super League series between Ireland, Bangladesh
Bangladesh will be touring England later in 2023. England will host Bangladesh and Ireland for a bilateral series between the two.
Bangladesh will play three ODIs against Ireland in the final fixtures of the ICC's Super League. The matches are expected to be played at Chelmsford in May.
Before Bangladesh's away tour, they will shortly host Ireland in a three-match ODI series which will begin on Saturday, March 18. The other two ODIs will take place on March 20 and March 23, with all the three matches scheduled to be played at Sylhet District Stadium.
