Veteran Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh is hoping to feature in his side Melbourne Renegades' upcoming fixture against Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday. The southpaw has missed his side's opening three matches of the ongoing Big Bash League due to a calf injury. However, the Renegades have managed to win all three of their opening games in the absence of the prolific 39-year-old.

Shaun Marsh featured for the Men in Red on seven occasions last season, returning with a decent output of 202 runs, striking the ball at a healthy 132.03. He re-signed for the Melbourne-based franchise until the end of the 2023-24 season. Marsh, who sits sixth in the BBL's all-time leading run-scoring chart, hopes to be back in action for his side's next meeting against the Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday, December 24.

"Hopefully (I'll be playing) the next game. (The) body is starting to feel good. It's good to be back with the guys again and be amongst it. The calf is feeling good, which is the main thing. Bit of training yesterday, bit more tomorrow, and then hopefully right for Saturday's game," Marsh told Channel 7 on Wednesday night.

Renegades make it three wins in three matches

The Melbourne Renegades have made a rollicking start to this year's BBL edition, being one of the only two teams to remain undefeated in the competition so far. However, they came close to tasting their first defeat of the season in their previous encounter against Brisbane Heat. Chasing a mediocre 137 set by the Heat, the Renegades were blown away by Michael Neser's sizzling hat trick, the first of the ongoing edition.

However, Andre Russell stood in the way of the Heat with a trailblazing half-century. His innings was followed by another swashbuckling cameo from his compatriot, Akeal Hosein, guiding the Renegades to their third consecutive victory in the competition. Marsh's return will surely bolster the batting attack, which has looked indifferent despite their three-game winning streak.
