Bangladesh have been mulling over making several transitions in their overall set-up of the administration ever since their poor ODI World Cup performances in recent times, which took place in India in October and November this year. It seems that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is now shifting their focus on bringing some changes to the selection panel. In the same vein, there are two changes proposed.

Notably, the current selection panel for the national team comprises Minhajul Abedin as the chief selector, while the former Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar is one of the selectors apart from Abdur Razzak. However, it is reported that Razzak will continue to serve on the selection panel. He assumed the role in 2021 after Sazzad Ahmed resigned from the coveted post. Not to forget that both the former players will complete their stipulated term on December 31.

Besides, the current chief selector took on the role of chief selector back in 2016 while Bashar served with the women's side earlier before getting onboard into the men's setup in the same year. Moreover, during a recent press conference, BCB president Nazmul Hasan clarified these changes are being brought not because of their performance assessment but majorly due to their long tenures in their current capacity

Thereafter, several names including the famous coach named Nazmul Abedin, sprung up for frontrunners to the post of national selector. However, some insiders on the board believe that Abedin has a rather bleak chance of getting the nod of the BCB. Albeit, the BCB president does not weigh in on the current opinions of the board members.

"There is nothing like that (selectors will have to be members of the national team)," Nazmul told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. "I will be busy with my election (parliamentary election) but after the 8th (January), I will return and following my return, there will be a board meeting where we are expecting to make a call on the selectors," the BCB president was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"The change is a natural process because they (selection panel) have been around for a long time. People say a lot of things (about the selection panel) but why they are saying this, they don't know. But it seems all the national selection panel will be responsible for everything," he added further.

Former Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful interested in post but BCB members against it

Interestingly enough, the former renowned Bangladesh batter and skipper Mohammad Ashraful was keen to contest for the post of the national selector. However, during the press meeting when a board member was asked about his interest in the selection panel, he said that most of the board members did not want him in the set-up due to his tainted match-fixing saga in the past. Moreover, he also added that most members think that his activities are far more unacceptable than another former skipper, Shakib Al Hasan.

When the BCB chief was asked about Ashraful's ambitions, he said that he chimes in with the opinion that the rest members of the board think the former player has the right to try for it but there will be a committee that will take the final decision regarding the selections.

"We have a committee and that committee will submit names (for the selection panel). They will see who are interested and what their preferences are and later have a discussion with the board and after that, we will select. To be honest, it is difficult to say who will come but if anyone wants to, he can express his interest and there is no problem with that," BCB top brass Nazmul Hasan concluded.
