The Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) got off to a scintillating start with a glittering opening ceremony at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, March 22. The grand evening was lit up with vibrant performances from Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. The crowd also got to witness some soulful renditions of numerous hit songs from the biggest artists of the country namely Oscar-winning Music director AR Rahman, Sonu Nigam, Mohit Chauhan, Neeti Mohan and many more.

During the event, the artists also paid tribute to the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Chandrayaan 3 mission which was successfully completed on August 23, 2023. Notably, with the successful landing of the Vikram Lander Module (LM) on the lunar surface, India became the fourth nation in the world after the United States, China, and the former Soviet Union (now Russia) to land on the moon.

CSK and RCB to clash in IPL 2024 opener

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on each other in the opening fixture of IPL 2024. Notably, CSK are the defending champions of the tournament and will be led by a new captain in Ruturaj Gaikwad who has been handed over the captaincy responsibility from legendary MS Dhoni.

Dhoni led CSK to joint-most five IPL titles with the latest one coming in 2023. On the other hand, RCB will be eager to start off their campaign on a winning note as they’re still searching for their maiden title win after 16 seasons. The Faf du Plessis-led side will take some inspiration from RCB women who recently clinched their first Women’s Premier League title by winning the second edition of the tournament.
