Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed revealed an amusing incident during the 2019 World Cup captains' meeting, when he and his Indian counterpart, Virat Kohli, were both asked about the India-Pakistan rivalry. Kohli provided a detailed response, while Sarfaraz's answer came out to be the more interesting one of the two. The wicketkeeper-batsman gave out a broad smile and stated that his comment was the same as that of Kohli.
Sarfaraz stated that when he and Kohli were asked about the hype surrounding an India-Pakistan match, he told the journalists to ask the Indian skipper first. He recalled that the tournament was in England, and as Kohli was explaining, he kept wondering when would he stop. Ahmed cleverly replied 'same answer' after hearing Kohli's reply.
“When we asked about the hype surrounding an India vs Pakistan match and how we react when people ask us for tickets, I said you can ask Virat first. I told him brother, why don’t you answer first? And Virat just started and went on. It was in England. I looked at him and was like ‘Bhai kab rukega? (When will you stop?). He kept using long words in English and all I could think of at that moment was ‘Who is going to translate all of this?’. I kept listening and said ‘Same answer’,”Sarfaraz said in the Nadir Ali Podcast.
Sarfaraz Ahmed recalls 2017 Champions Trophy win over India
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led Pakistan to victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy, also recalled the tournament's final match against India. He stated that winning a final against India could not be put into words.
He added that they had previously defeated India, but beating such a team in a tournament as big as the Champions Trophy, was a massive feat.
“This is a memory (winning the Champions Trophy) which I can never forget. To win a final against India cannot be described in words. Had it been a normal match, it wouldn’t have been such a big deal. We had won matches against India earlier as well, in ICC events, bilateral series – in fact, we have won more. But to win against such a team, which could chase down any total was incredible,” Ahmed said.
