Pakistan Women's cricketer Bismah Maroof has stepped down from her position as captain of the national team. Her decision to resign as skipper comes right after the conclusion of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023, in South Africa.

The Pakistan Women had a dissapointing outing in the World Cup, losing three of their four group stage matches and getting eliminated yet again in an ICC event. Bismah Maroof had been captaining Pakistan for a long time in international cricket. She has captained her side in 62 T20Is and 34 ODIs.

'Accepted her resignation': PCB Chief Najam Sethi

"I have accepted resignation of @maroof_bismah Captain of Pakistan Women’s National Team. She wants to make way for a younger colleague. But happily she will continue to play for Pakistan and bring laurels for her country," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
According to Sethi, Maroof relinquished captaincy for she wanted to "make way for a younger colleague". It is yet to be ascertained as to who the "younger colleague" is to be who might succeed the 31-year-old for the honourable post. However, Maroof has stated that she will by all means still be continuing to serve Pakistan as a cricketer and try her best to bring many laurels for her country.
Maroof serves Pakistan as an all-rounder. She bats left-handed and bowls right-arm leg break. Under her leadership, Pakistan have turned out victorious in 27 out of their 62 T20I outings, while losing 32. In ODIs, the Women in Green have won only 16 out of their 34 outings, all under Maroof's captaincy stint.
During her 17-year-long career, the stylish Pakistani batter has amassed 3110 runs from 124 ODIs at an average of 30.19. She has scored 2658 runs in 132 T20Is at an average of 27.1.
