The much-awaited Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) will get underway on Friday, March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai as defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on each other in the opening fixture. RCB will hope for a positive start to the season as they take on one of their oldest rivals in their den.

Notably, the Faf du Plessis-led side failed to qualify for the playoffs of the last season finishing on the sixth spot on the points table with seven wins from 14 matches having 14 points to their name. However, RCB will be eager to turn things around in the upcoming season and they’ve even got the backing of former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee to go all the way to lift the trophy in 2024.

Speaking at an event, Lee stated that the team has had the best side for a number of years and the recent name and jersey change could well bring good luck for them.

"I was going through all the teams, the 10 franchises and not because he (AB de Villiers) is sitting next to me, I actually think RCB have a very good chance this year. I would not bet against them. They've had the best side for a number of years, maybe different ways. Over here in India, there are a lot of superstitions. They have changed the name, colour of the clothing. This could be the year," Lee was quoted as saying by News18.

RCB changed their name in Unbox Event

Notably, RCB recently changed their team name from ‘Royal Challengers Bangalore’ to ‘Royal Challengers Bengaluru’ during the ‘Unbox event’ on March 19 and also unveiled their new jersey which has a tinge of blue in it. Furthermore, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women recently won the first-ever T20 title for the franchise by winning the Women’s Premier League 2024.
