The celebrity-rich cricket tournament was founded by Vishnu Vardhan Induri of Hyderabad in 2010 by selling franchise rights of four teams. He got the idea of CCL after getting inspired from the Indian Premier League. Induri is the founder and managing director of CCL and also owns the media production house named ‘Vibri Media’.
The inaugural season of the cricket event took place in 2011 with four teams competing against each other: Chennai Rhinos, Telugu Warriors, Mumbai Heroes, and Karnataka Bulldozers. Chennai Rhinos went on to become the champions after defeating Karnataka Bulldozers in the final.
With some renowned names from different industries like Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Sonu Sood, and Manoj Tiwari with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan being the Brand Ambassador of the league, CCL is now played between eight teams, where each team represents their film industry from different states or cities i.e. Mumbai Heroes, Karnataka Bulldozers, Punjab De Sher, Bengal Tigers, Bhojpuri Dabbangs, Chennai Rhinos, Kerala Strikers, and Telugu Warriors.
Mumbai Hereos are the current holders of the trophy with some famous names like Sohail Khan, Sharad Kelkar, Kunal Khemu, and Sunil Shetty who represented them in 2019. The latest edition of the tournament will be played from February 18 onwards. However, the entire schedule is yet to be announced by the officials.
