Chaminda Vaas, Moin Khan announced as head coaches for Zim Afro T10 season two

With a couple of weeks left for the 2024 edition of the Zim Afro T10 to kickstart, the five franchises have named their respective head coaches, who will be at the helm for the tournament which will last for a total of nine days.

The NYC Lagos, coming into the mix in the place of the defending champions Durban Qalandars, have roped in dynamic ex-Sri Lankan all-rounder, Chaminda Vaas. Vaas is no novice to the coaching role and has previously worked with the national teams of his nation, New Zealand, and Ireland.

As for the Durban Wolves, (Durban Qalandars in 2023), they have incorporated 1992 World Cup-winning Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter, Moin Khan. Other than having experience in coaching Pakistan from 2014 to 2016 as well as the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, he has also served as the selector for the national side.

As for the Bulawayo Braves Jaguars, they have gone ahead with former English batter, Owais Shah. Other than being involved with the UAE, he has also been at the forefront of the Dambulla Viiking in the Lanka Premier League. Other than that, he has a wealth of experience as far as T20s are concerned, playing 230 in total.

Former English wicketkeeper-batter, James Foster, was brought into the system by the Cape Town Samp Army. Much like his aforementioned erstwhile English teammate, Foster has gone around plying his trade at the Indian Premier League as a fielding and assistant coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020 and 2022, respectively. Other than that, he has also been the head coach of the Khulna Tigers and the Peshawar Zalmi. Glamorgan had hired him as a batting consultant for the 2019 edition of the Vitality Blast. 

The runners-up of the 2023 season, the Jo'Burg Bangla Tigers acquired 55-year-old Julian Wood, who is well-acclaimed for the work and inputs he has provided quite a few power-hitters of the game. He has previously played for Berkshire and Hampshire and had a successful stint with the Punjab Kings as their batting consultant.

The mantle of coaching for the Harare Bolts (Harare Hurricanes in 2023) has been shed on Sri Lankan Pubudu Dassanayake, who has worked with the USA, Canadian, and Nepal cricket teams as their head coach previously. Under his coaching tenure, Canada was able to defeat the Irish, a Test-playing full-member in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.

The entire tournament will be played at the same venue, the Harare Sports Club.
