Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was adamant about India’s presence in the country for the impending Champions Trophy 2025 which Pakistan is set to host. After all the statements on not abiding by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) demand for a neutral venue, the PCB has reportedly left the decision for the International Cricket Council (ICC) to handle on its own.

According to a report from News18, the recent ICC meeting held in Colombo had topics like the scheduling and format of the tournament strayed away. As per PCB’s source, the board has suggested all of the Indian team’s matches be held in Lahore. It is worth noting that, India have not visited the neighbouring country since Asia Cup in 2008 after the terrorist attack on Mumbai that year, which was carried out by Pakistani extremists.

“It is now up to the ICC how soon they circulate, discuss, and finalize the schedule of the Champions Trophy. The PCB for its part in the draft schedule has suggested hosting all of India’s games in Lahore, including a semi-final (if India qualifies) and final,” a source said according to the report.

No official word from BCCI on Pakistan travel

The meeting held in Colombo saw no formal interaction between BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah and PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi according to the source. However, ICC has allotted the extra funds to accommodate the Indian team if playing at a neutral venue comes into the picture. On the other hand, BCCI is adamant about travelling to Pakistan only if the Indian government provides a green signal.

The last time India visited Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup, they reached the final but were thwarted by Sri Lanka in the penultimate game. The most recent Asia Cup 2023 was scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan solely, but due to India’s reluctance to send their players, a hybrid model was adopted as India played all their games in Sri Lanka.
