CIB arrested two Nepalese cricketers on charge of Match-fixing and Spot-fixing

A Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) team arrested Mehboob Alam and Mohammad Adil Ansari on Monday. The police claimed that the two Nepalese cricketers have been involved in match-fixing and spot-fixing in during the recently held Nepal T20 league. The CIB have been directed to investigate further the allegations of fixing by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The T20 league came in the controversy after Former Nepal Cricket Team captain and the captain of Kathmandu Knights, Gyanendra Malla, revealed that one of his teammates was offfered a match-fixing proposal. Albeit, Malla has already reported the matter with the anti-corruption unit of the ICC.

Also players from Kathmandu and Biratnagar Superkings refused to take the field claiming that they havn’t been paid their due salaries. But they changed their decision after Cricket Association of Nepal ensured them to get paid.

Other than this, official commentator of the league, Sachin Timalsena shared a post on his Facebook page where he revealed while working as a commentator, he found some suspicious activities going on during the league as he followed the game closely.

A total of seven to eight players from the Nepal’s Cricket team have been reported to International Cricket Council Corruption Unit about the match fixing offers. ICC’s two member representative team visited Nepal after the allegations of match-fixing, spot-fixing and betting.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has also asked National Sports Council  for the clarification for the cricket tournament being hosted without the council’s permission and payment issue of the foreign players participated in the league without work permit.
