The legendary cricketer Brian Lara has been appointed as the new performance mentor for West Indies team across formats. He will work closely with the squad and will also with Cricket West Indies (CWI) in order to restore the glory that’s been missing in the team in the last few years.

When it comes to the team, the 53-year-old will provide tactical advice to the players and will aim to improve the game sense of all the players. When it comes to working with Jimmy Adams, the CWI president, Lara is expected help him build the team’s strategy for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India and also with the T20 World Cup, which will take place in West Indies and the United States of America next year.

Now, soon after his appointment, the former cricketer mentioned that he wants to help the national team players with their mental approach towards the game and also help them with key tactics.

“Having spent time with the players and coaches in Australia and in discussions with CWI, I really believe that I can help the players with their mental approach to the game and with their tactics to be more successful,” Lara said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

CWI president Jimmy Adams seemed very excited with Brian Lara joining the West Indies management and mentioned that the former cricketer can make a significant contribution towards the growth of West Indies cricket.

“I am really looking forward to Brian making a significant contribution to our cricket system by providing invaluable guidance and advice to our players and coaches. We are confident that Brian will help to improve our high-performance mindset and strategic culture that will bring us more success on the field across all formats. Everyone is excited to have Brian involved in supporting our players,” Adams said.

Notably, Lara’s commitment will not affect his role in the Indian Premier League. He will remain as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad following Tom Moody’s departure.
