Cricket West Indies (CWI) has decided to part ways with Courtney Walsh, head coach of the West Indies women’s team. The cricket board will also not renew the contracts of assistant coaches Robert Samuels and Corey Collymore following a review of the team's performance in recent times.

Notably, Walsh took charge in October 2020 after Gus Logie was sacked from the same role. Meanwhile, under Walsh’s regime, the West Indies have managed to win only seven out of 24 T20Is and 11 out of 32 ODIs. Thus, looking at the performance of the team, the cricket board has decided not to renew his contract.

“We are very grateful for the contribution of Courtney and his technical team over the past two and a half years and we wish them all the best going forward. CWI remains committed to our international women's programme and will now be focusing on recruiting a new Head Coach and technical support team. An interim technical support team will be put in place during the recruitment period,” CWI Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams said in a statement.

Now, even though West Indies’ performance was below par during his tenure, the team however qualified for the semi-finals in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2022. However, in the match against Australia, they suffered a humiliating 157-run (DLS method) defeat and got knocked out of the tournament. Meanwhile, the most noteworthy performance came when West Indies defeated Pakistan in both the home and away series in 2021.

On the other hand, in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in South Africa, West Indies failed to qualify for the knockouts after winning just two matches in the league stage. This eventually played a huge role in CWI removing Walsh as their head coach.

Another huge development that happened in Welsh’s era was the sudden retirement of legendary cricketer Deandra Dottin. Even though she didn’t mention any particular name but stated that the team environment has been non-conducive and that’s the reason behind her decision to retire. Since then, she is playing franchise cricket all over the world.
