Durham confirmed on October 23, 2026, that Daniel Hogg has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least the close of the 2028 season. His previous terms were set to expire at the end of 2027, so the new agreement adds a further year to his time at the Riverside.
Hogg, who is 21 years old, came through the Durham pathway from the under-13s level all the way into the professional set-up via the Academy system. He announced himself on the first-class stage with a seven-wicket haul for 66 runs on debut, a performance that came at Banks Homes Riverside against Nottinghamshire in August 2024. Since that outing, the towering seamer has accumulated 17 wickets across eight County Championship appearances, with his most recent Durham match coming against Yorkshire at Headingley in September 2025.
The 2026 season proved difficult for Hogg, who was hampered by side and wrist injuries that restricted his availability. With those setbacks behind him, he is scheduled to spend the coming winter playing club cricket for Swanbourne in Perth, Australia, building competitive overs ahead of the 2027 campaign.
What did Hogg say about signing the extension?
Hogg acknowledged that agreeing fresh terms without a sustained run of matches under his belt came as a welcome surprise, and he expressed gratitude for the backing he has received from the Durham coaching staff during his injury-affected period. The extension represents a show of faith from the club in a seamer they regard as a significant part of their future plans.
"I'm so pleased to sign an extension with Durham, the past few years have been tough with lots of injuries. To sign an extension without much time on the pitch was pretty surprising but also good to know that Cambo is backing me. I am very much looking forward to the next couple of years with Durham as we strive for further success," Hogg said in an official club statement.
What does Ryan Campbell make of Hogg's potential at Durham?
Ryan Campbell, Director of Cricket and High-Performance Coaching at Durham, pointed to Hogg's strong work ethic during his injury-affected spells as a key reason behind the club's decision to extend his contract. Campbell noted that Hogg's breakthrough form earlier in his career demonstrated the level of ability the club believes he can return to, and that another winter in Australia is central to the plan for getting him back to full fitness and contention for a first-team place.
"Dan had a really impressive breakthrough season a couple of years ago but unfortunately has suffered a few injuries since then meaning he hasn’t been on the park as much as he would have liked. He has continued to work really hard in the gym, and we know how much potential he has at 21-years old. I believe he deserves this extension giving him another two years to work on his game and develop as a cricketer, which will hopefully see positive rewards over the next few years. With another season playing in Australia, we hope to see him back fit and firing ahead of the 2027 season and competing for a place in our 11," Campbell said in the statement.
