Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly was full of praise for the Australian opener David Warner for his aggressive innings in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final. The one-off Test between India and Australia has already kickstarted on Wednesday, June 7, at The Oval, in London. After being asked to bat first, Warner provided the Pat Cummins-led side with a great start after the early jolt in the form of Usman Khawaja. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Khawaja, who was the highest run scorer of the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, for a 10-ball duck. After his departure, Warner led the charge of Australia and put on a crucial partnership with Marnus Labuschagne.

The 36-year-old scored eight boundaries in his 43-run 60-ball innings. However, after lunch, a clip down the leg side from the batter got deposited straight into the hands of keeper-batter, KS Bharat.

Ganguly said that the Australian opener had come into the contest under a lot of pressure. He then lauded Warner, calling him a champion batter for the Australian team. The former India captain added that the Aussie has played more than 100 Test matches, scored more than 20 Test hundreds, and played very well for his 43 runs.

"David Warner came in the WTC Final under a little bit of pressure. There were talks that he has got a couple of Test matches or three matches before they take him off the team. But he has been a champion batter for the Australian team. He has played more than 100 Test matches, scored more than 20 Test hundreds (25) and I thought he batted exceptionally well," Ganguly told the broadcaster during the lunch break.

Warner is a happy go lucky person, He is always Smiling: Ganguly

The Delhi Capitals' (DC) Director of Cricket went on to say that Warner's strength was Umesh Yadav's poor lengths. He also said that the Aussie is a tremendous cutter and puller and that he will be pleased with his innings, which will give him a lot of confidence. He further added that the DC skipper is a happy-go-lucky person, who does not take much pressure and always smiles.

"Umesh bowled a little short to him and that has been his strength. He is a tremendous cutter and puller and I think he will be happy with his innings and that will give him a lot of confidence for the long season ahead. I think he looked very good in his short innings.

"David Warner is a little different. He is a happy go lucky person, does not take much pressure, he is always smiling. It is a big summer for him," Ganguly concluded.
