The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has decided to sack Delhi head coach Abhay Sharma following an underwhelming campaign in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. The development follows after the association decided to show the exit doors to the entire men’s senior selection panel for the same reason.
DDCA president Rohan Jaitley has taken a serious view of the developments and has started an overhaul within the side. A senior DDCA official confirmed the exit after displaying poor performances in the domestic season.
"After the selection committee being handed pink slip, Abhay can't escape the axe as he is equally responsible for this debacle. Selectors have selected the squad but what kind of XI is being chosen by him. Bring a stop-gap coach and then take it from thereon,” a senior DDCA director told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Committees are functioning without any visions and mission: DDCA president
Delhi faced a massive defeat against Saurashtra as they lost the match by an inning and 214 runs. The side lost two of their four matches and yielded draws in two contests. As a result, Delhi are placed in the seventh spot in the eight-team Elite Group B Ranji Trophy 2022-23 points table.
And after four matches in the season, which resulted into no wins and poor performances displayed on the pitch, Jaitley highlighted the lack of ‘vision’ in a scathing email to the CAC.
“I am stood compelled to write this mail for placing on record my disapproval on the manner in which the Men’s Selection Committees of the DDCA are discharging its affairs. It appears that such Committees are functioning without any visions and mission. The issue of manner in which players are being selected and replaced at the drop of a hat has become talk of the town," DDCA president Jaitley wrote in his email.
Delhi's season looks well and truly over as the side will look to salvage some lost pride with their remaining fixtures in the competition. It, however, remains to be seen what changes DDCA might bring for the next season.
