India all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the Uttar Pradesh government. The 26-year-old all-rounder has been one of the consistent names in the national squad and has delivered time and again in crunch situations. She was felicitated by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with the honour and a cash prize of INR 3 crore.

Notably, Deepti’s journey to success began in the modest neighbourhood of Awadhpuri in Agra, where she developed her cricketing skills alongside local talents like Deepak Chahar. After working hard on her skills, the cricketer made her international debut in 2014. Since then, the all-rounder has gone on to represent the national team in 194 matches and has picked up 229 wickets. She has been a handy batter down the order, playing a crucial role in the Women’s Asia Cup in 2018 and 2022.

She also went on to win a gold medal at the Asian Games in China and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, in which India lost to Australia in the final. In December 2023, Deepti’s exceptional all-around performance earned her the title of ICC ‘Player of the Month,’ making her the second Indian woman cricketer to receive this accolade. She was sensational in the ODI series against Australia, in which, she finished as the joint-leading wicket-taker of the series alongside Georgia Wareham. Speaking to India Today, the all-rounder expressed her gratitude and spoke about her desire to promote women’s cricket in India and the rest of the country.

Deepti moved to number two in women’s T20I ranking

Deepti has climbed to the second spot in the latest ICC Women's T20I bowling rankings. She is now the joint second alongside Pakistan's left-arm off-spinner Sadia Iqbal. Meanwhile, Australia’s Beth Mooney has climbed to number one in the T20I batter’s ranking. Courtesy of her two half-centuries against India, the Australia skipper has regained her spot at the helm of things.
