Young South African prodigy Dewald Brevis made the headlines on Monday after smashing a breathtaking 162 runs off just 57 deliveries during the CSA T20 Challenge. Brevis, who represents Titans in the CSA domestic circuit, equaled the record for the third-highest T20 score.

Dewald Brevis, who is nicknamed 'Baby AB' because of his similar batting style to that of the iconic AB de Villiers, smacked 13 fours and 13 sixes in his record-breaking stay at the crease. Brevis opened the innings for the Titans and reached his half-century in just 17 deliveries. His belligerence with the bat continued as he amassed the next 50 runs in just 18 deliveries to breach the three-figure mark in just 35 deliveries, the fastest domestic hundred in South Africa.

He equaled Hazratullah Zazai and Hamilton Masakadza's third-highest score in T20s, falling short of Chris Gayle's landmark innings of 175 runs by just 13 runs after being dismissed in the final over of the first innings. Propelled by his record-shattering innings, Titan posted a massive tally of 271 runs in their 20 overs. His 162 off just 57 deliveries is not only the highest in domestic T20s but also the fastest 150 in the shortest format of the game.

The 19-year-old was roped in by the IPL franchise and five-time champions Mumbai Indians due to his  exuberance. He showed glimpses of his stunning skills with a couple of blistering cameos for the Mumbai-based franchise but his latest exploits with the South African domestic side has made the world take notice of the youngster once again.

Ab de Villiers lauds the youngster for his stunning assault

Twitter was in disbelief after the young South African's breathtaking innings with the likes of AB de Villiers left in awe of his abilities. AB tweeted, "Dewald Brevis. No need to say more." Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel ushered massive praise on the youngster by tweeting, "Watching a masterclass from Dewald Brevis. Bowlers will be under serious pressure for the next 15+ years."
