Dilsher Khanna resigns as PCA secretary, cites personal reasons
Dilsher Khanna served as the team manager of the Indian men's team during the T20 World Cup 2024.
Dilsher Khanna has stepped down from his role as the honorary secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), citing personal reasons. Khanna, who was nearing the end of his three-year term, submitted his resignation on Sunday via an official letter addressed to PCA president Amarjeet Mehta, the council, and association members.
Khanna began his tenure in 2022 when he was elected alongside former cricketer Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal, who served briefly as PCA president before resigning under a series of controversies. Notably, his exit comes just weeks before the upcoming PCA apex council elections, scheduled for mid-July, to decide the leadership for the 2025-2028 term.
In his resignation note, the 35-year-old reflected on the feats achieved during his stint. He oversaw the successful hosting of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in 2024 and 2025 at the newly completed Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA International Stadium in New Chandigarh.
“Due to personal reasons, I hereby resign as honorary secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association with immediate effect," he wrote in his resignation letter as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Punjab clinched five national titles under Dilsher Khanna's stint
Another feather in Khanna’s cap was his involvement in Team India’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign in 2024 in the USA and the West Indies, where he served as a team manager. Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, the Men in Blue lifted the trophy, ending their 11-year ICC title drought.
Meanwhile, Khanna also led administrative reforms within PCA, playing an important role in the creation and launch of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup, the association’s league, which completed two successful seasons during his term. Interestingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed him to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) committee earlier this year.
Khanna was honoured with a commendation certificate by the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Independence Day last year. During his tenure, Punjab clinched five national titles and witnessed players like Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Ramandeep Singh make a place in the national team.
