England batter Jordan Cox has penned a new contract with Essex, which will keep him with the county until the end of the 2028 season. The right-handed batter first joined the Chelmsford-based side in 2024, having made a short journey over from Kent.

The contract extension with Essex comes at an excellent point in Cox's career. The wicketkeeper-batter was recently added to England's Test side along with fast bowler Jofra Archer, following Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson's involvement in a nightclub brawl after the first Test at Lord's.

Cox's outstanding return to red-ball cricket could see him finally make his Test debut for the Three Lions. The 25-year-old scored 204 off just 201 during Essex's County Championship Division One game against the newly-promoted Leicestershire side. He hit 26 fours and two sixes along the way to strike at 101.49.

Before returning to the United Kingdom, Cox was part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side, which won their second consecutive Indian Premier League title. The Englishman, however, did not play a single game and was instead used as an emergency fielder during an injury to one of their regular starters.

"We have built a strong group both on and off the field, and I believe we are building towards success for ourselves and our fans. I am excited to continue my journey here, keep contributing to the team's ambitions, and help bring more memorable moments to Chelmsford and the club in the years ahead," Jordan Cox said via BBC Sport.

Since signing for them ahead of the 2024 season, Cox has gone on to score more than 2,000 runs for Essex across all formats. This includes hitting 342 runs at a strike-rate of 165.21 during last season's T20 Blast, where he also scored a magnificent century against Hampshire.

Essex are currently enjoying a decent start to their 2026 season. They are second in the T20 Blast's South Group with 16 points from six matches and are also fourth in the County Championship, having amassed 84 points.
