The English summer finally kicks off as England and Ireland take on each other for a one-off Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 1.
England will be playing the game as preparation for the upcoming Ashes series, where they take on fierce rivals Australia for five Test matches, as they would be looking to reclaim the urn by defeating the Pat Cummins-led side. Playing cricket 'Bazball' style, England have dominated their opponents in red-ball cricket in the last year and have been one of the strongest Test sides in world cricket.
Meanwhile, Andrew Balbirnie-led Ireland would look to pull off a big upset in the game. Ireland last played a Test against Sri Lanka, when they took on the Dimuth Karunaratne-led side for two Test matches. The series ended in defeat for Ireland, as they lost both games after being dominated by hoests Sri Lanka, who won the first game by an innings and 280 runs and the secondone by an innings and 10 runs.
On the other hand, England last played a Test when they took on New Zealand in two Tests in February. After winning the first game by 267 runs, England lost the second one as the series ended in a draw.
