Ex-MI player Shivalik Sharma charged for sexual assault in Jodhpur

Former Mumbai Indians cricketer, Shivalik Sharma, has been levied allegations of rape. The case was registered against the youngster at the Kudi Bhagatasani Police Station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Formalities such as  the victim’s medical
examination, court statement, and other legal proceedings have already been done. The police is reported to be on the lookout for Shivalik. There is a high possibility that the Baroda cricketer may be apprehended at any moment.  

Local ACP Anand Singh Rajpurohit provided further details in relation to the same case. He elaborated on the entire flow of events which unfolded with respect to the batter and the woman with whom he was engaged. 

“A woman, a resident of Sector 2, Kudi Bhagatasani, has levelled allegations against cricketer Shivalik Sharma. The woman had gone for a walk in Vadodara in February 2023, where she met Shivalik. Their friendship gradually turned into a romantic relationship, and they would speak for hours over the phone. Both families met in 2023, and the couple got engaged. After their engagement, they engaged in physical relations,” stated Rajpurohit, as quoted by Lokmat Times.

In August 2024, Shivalik invited the woman to the city of Baroda to meet him. However, his parents later informed her that Shivalik could no longer continue the relationship. Upset by this, the woman filed a rape case against him," he added.

For the unversed, Shivalik is a native of Baroda, Gujarat. He was a part of MI in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. MI acquired him for his base price of INR 20 lakh ahead of previous season's mini auction. However, he did not play for the joint-most successful franchise of the marquee T20 tournament.

Shivalik recently represented Baroda in the 2024-25 editions of the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, respectively. He scored 484 runs in 11 innings and 155 runs in six innings, respectively. Shivalik played an instrumental part in last year's edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for his state, registering 235 runs in nine innings at an impressive strike rate of 155.62.
