Five-member ICC team to assess Pakistan's preparedness for Champions Trophy 2025

As Pakistan is preparing to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a crucial phase in the preparation process is set to begin. A five-member delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) will arrive in Karachi on Tuesday night, for a comprehensive four-day assessment of Pakistan's readiness for the prestigious tournament.

This visit comes after the local media reports suggest that renovation work at the designated venues, National Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore seems to be late. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains confident in their ability to meet deadlines.

The ICC delegation, comprising senior officials, senior events manager, events manager, security manager, general manager cricket, and production manager will conduct thorough inspections of stadiums, practice facilities, and hotels. Their assessment will focus on ensuring that all arrangements meet the high standards expected for an international tournament of this caliber.

"The redevelopment of the stadia in Karachi and Lahore is progressing rapidly and the PCB is confident that the construction companies will meet their targets on time. These upgrades are not just a necessity but a critical step in elevating our venues to meet the expectations of the modern game," a PCB spokesperson said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The Champions Trophy, scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025, has been allocated a budget of 65 million by the ICC. While Pakistan is eager to show its capability to host the entire tournament, there remains uncertainty surrounding India's participation. This has led to considerations of a potential hybrid model, similar to last year's Asia Cup, where Indian matches could be played outside Pakistan if necessary.

"The two stadia required significant improvements to provide world-class facilities and enhanced experiences for fans, players, officials, and broadcasters alike. The PCB is resolutely committed to showcasing our venues as world-class destinations, adhering to the highest international standards and reinforcing our position on the global sporting stage," the PCB spokesperson added.

As the ICC delegation concludes its visit on September 21, all eyes will be on their assessment. Their findings will play a crucial role in determining Pakistan's readiness to host this major cricketing event.
