After an epic debut against Pakistan in 2022, former England spinner Panesar has claimed Rehan Ahmed is a huge prospect.
Rehan Ahmed became the youngest England debutant after making the playing XI against Pakistan in Karachi. He had a dream debut taking a five-wicket haul in the second innings against Pakistan and helping his side win the contest. With that five-wicket haul, England were able to complete a clean sweep against the hosts and was a very massive accomplishment for Rehan and the England side.
An earlier video of the Late Shane Warne also started to trend on social media where he was seen telling the young Rehan Ahmed that he could very well play county cricket by the time he is 15/16. Monty Panesar also gave his opinion on the young spinner and how he could be a great asset for the England team going forward.
The spinner said, “England had done so well in Pakistan that they had a luxury Test match to have a look at him and he did really well. He performed well and he showed his credentials. I don't know if he will play regularly, but he will go on trips and if Jack Leach is unable to perform then they've got someone there in Rehan Ahmed. He puts pace on the ball, that's the most important thing for a spinner in Test cricket. But seeing him, his glass ceiling is high. He's only had a bit of experience, but with Rehan Ahmed you think 'yeah, he's got a big future'."
Monty Panesar who represented England in 50 tests and had 167 wickets to his name was part of many series played by the nation. He was the lead spinner of the team for quite a while and took wickets for his country at crucial stages of the game. He, along with the James Anderson and Stuart Broad, were the backbone of the bowling attack for England.
