Gareth Roderick has signed a contract extension with Worcestershire that will keep him at New Road until 2028. The announcement was made on October 9, 2026, by the club.

Roderick joined Worcestershire in 2021 and has since made 146 appearances across all formats for the county. In 65 first-class matches, he has scored over 3,000 runs, including seven centuries and 12 half-centuries, while also completing more than 200 dismissals behind the stumps. His highest first-class score is 172 not out, which he made against Glamorgan in 2022. Earlier in the 2026 summer, he scored 164 against Northamptonshire. Across List A and T20 cricket, Roderick has accumulated more than 1,800 runs, with three hundreds and seven fifties in those formats combined.

"Worcestershire is somewhere I have called home for a long while now and it is a place I have made some amazing memories. I have a lot more to give on the field, as a batter and as a wicket keeper, and I am fully committed to giving my absolute best to the Club for as long as I possibly can. It is a great group to be a part of, with a lot of potential and I am excited by that going forward. After a frustrating end to the summer, I am raring to get into next year, keep offering what I can and help the boys challenge on all fronts," Roderick said in a club statement.

Why is Roderick's extension significant for Worcestershire?

Roderick has been a consistent presence for Worcestershire since arriving in 2021, contributing both with the bat and behind the stumps across all three formats. His record of over 3,000 first-class runs and more than 200 dismissals underlines his value as a specialist wicketkeeper-batter at county level. The extension through 2028 secures a senior figure in the dressing room at a time when the club is building for the future. Head Coach Alan Richardson acknowledged Roderick's broader role at the club, noting that he has been part of the group for five years.

"Since arriving five years ago Gareth has become a really important part of our group, as a player but also as a senior figure and a leader. He is someone who is well-respected around the team and represents a lot of our core values, whilst also showing his professionalism on the pitch in the way he goes about his business. Out in the middle he is a fierce competitor, he drives standards at training and is a real asset across all-three formats as a batter and with the gloves. He has a lot more to give and is very motivated, so we are really happy he will be continuing to represent the Club going forward," Richardson said.

What does the deal mean for Roderick's time at New Road?

Roderick joined Worcestershire in 2021 and, with the new deal running until 2028, he will have spent at least seven years at the club by the time the contract concludes. His 146 appearances across all formats since joining reflect a consistent run in the side, and his form in the 2026 season, including a score of 164 against Northamptonshire, demonstrated that he remains a productive member of the batting line-up.

The extension confirms Roderick as a long-term fixture at New Road. No details regarding the terms of his previous contract or its expiry date before this extension were disclosed by the club.
