Gautam Gambhir lauds Virat Kohli for playing 'best ODI knock by an Indian'

Ahead of India’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh, head coach Gautam Gambhir and star batter Virat Kohli shared the screen discussing various topics, such as their banter, World Cup 2011 success, and how their journey has been so far in cricket. The duo has seen a lot of success together but has also been involved in many verbal spats in the IPL, for which, they have also been fined by the disciplinary committee.

However, they are well over the past and are now working in tandem for the betterment of Indian cricket. Meanwhile, Gambhir who gave his Player of the Match award to Kohli early in his career, opened up on the latter’s success in international cricket and believes that he has created a legacy that the next generations will look up to.

The 42-year-old also spoke about Kohli’s best ODI innings, which came against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup. Chasing 330 runs against Pakistan, Gambhir departed for a duck, and batting at number three, Kohli changed the game, scoring 183 runs. He helped India win the game by six wickets and that according to Gambhir is the best knock by an Indian cricket in ODI cricket history. He also talked about Kohli’s success over the years in the 50-overs format.

“I saw you making your debut. Played a really good, important knock in the Champions Trophy in South Africa (England) in a tricky wicket against West Indies, against a really good attack, and then probably the best one-day innings that an Indian has played. Not purely based on a point of view, because guys have got double hundreds,” Gambhir said in a video released by BCCI.

"It is the best innings I have seen is because the quality of opposition, the attack.. Chasing 300+ against Pakistan.. So you have come a long way. Those are really special things and most importantly, how you have taken Indian cricket forward, the legacy that you have left for the next generation to follow,” he added.
