The auction of the second edition of the WPL (Women’s Premier League) is well underway, and the five franchises put in their best effort to bring in some of the biggest names from women’s cricket to their side. 

One side that could have many eyes set upon it could be Gujarat Giants. The side had a forgettable campaign in the inaugural edition of the marquee tournament. After playing eight games in the tournament, Gujarat Giants only managed to register two victories and lost their remaining six matches. Finishing in fifth place, Giants missed out on making it to the knockout stages of the tournament, as they finished with four points in eight matches.

However, as the auction rolled up to the forefront, Giants looked keen and dedicated to getting the players on their side. The franchise established their authority right from the get-go as they brought in the young Australian batter, Phoebe Litchfield, quite early into the event. Furthermore, they followed it up by roping in the likes of Meghna Singh and Trisha Poojitha in their squad ahead of the WPL 2024 as well. Now only time will tell how Gujarat Giants perform in the WPL 2024.

Their campaign in the inaugural season was hindered after star player Beth Mooney injured herself in the early stages. Thereafter, the side played the entirety of the season without their regular skipper and even lost their first two games of the season. Their only wins came against UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals. However, with some significant star power on their side, Gujarat Giants will be expected to do better.
