Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell suffered a freak leg injury on Sunday, November 13 while attending his friend’s party and was ruled out of the ongoing ODIs against England at home. He underwent surgery recently and has started with his rehabilitation process to get fit soon.

The all-rounder will also miss a major part of the upcoming Big Bash League 2022 and is hopeful of making a comeback in the second half of Australia’s biggest T20 league.

Australia are set to tour India for a four-match Test series in the month of February 2023 and Maxwell has quite clearly indicated his interest in making it to the squad for the Test tour. Former Australian cricketer David Hussey provided an update on Maxwell’s return date and his short-term goals.

"Speaking to Glenn directly, he's pretty hopeful of getting back towards the end of the BBL tournament and then targeting the Indian Test tour," David Hussey, Melbourne Stars’ coach, was quoted as saying on RSN.

"Everyone knows what a wonderful player of spin he is and he has Indian experience,” he added.

"There are a few goals for him to obtain and that makes the rehabilitation process more focused – so he can try and achieve those goals," Hussey said as per RSN.

It's looking like Maxwell will be on track for (a return) later in the summer: Andrew McDonald

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald feels that Maxwell needs to undergo a long rehabilitation before he is up and running and explained how his absence could affect the Australia side across formats.

"All has gone well with the surgery so it's looking like he'll be on track for (a return) later in the summer, which is great news for Glenn, but a lot of rehab to go through (before then)," McDonald said on SEN radio.

"He was on track to play one of his first red-ball games for a while (and) for the one-day team, his role at No.7, the overs that he gives, the three dimensions, really takes something away from our team,” he added.
