Australia coach Andrew McDonald has opened up about injured Glenn Maxwell’s current condition. He said that the all-rounder is in consideration for the upcoming ODI series against India if he gets fit in time. Maxwell did not feature in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a leg injury. however, he is recovering well from the injury and has shown signs of making a return to the field.

McDonald said that the Test series against India would put a lot of pressure on Maxwell, however, he feels that the all-rounder can play the ODIs against India, which will take place from March 17 to 22.

"If he (Maxwell) gets through everything that he needs to then he will be a starter for that one-day series (against India that follows the Tests). Anything forward of that will be discussed," the coach was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Maxwell broke his leg after Australia's exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The 34-year-old cricketer slipped at a friend's party and later underwent surgery before starting his recovery.

"It’s been a pretty long journey over the last 3 and half months, so a lot of early morning sessions, gym, rehab, pool sessions, physio. To feel like I am at the back-end of that now and able to play some cricket is something I’m proud of,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.

He also regretted missing out on the ongoing Test series against India, where Australia have already lost the first two Tests. He said that the freak injury will probably nag him for the rest of his life.

"Probably will nag at me for the rest of my life. It's nice getting the opportunity to watch your teammates play, especially over there. I think they've got the squad that's probably as good as I've seen go over to India since I've been watching Tests over there, anyway,” Maxwell had said while doing commentary during a Big Bash League (BBL) match on Fox Cricket.
