'Go tell the skipper to give a few overs' - Anil Kumble tells Yashasvi Jaiswal to bowl as well post Rajkot display

Yashasvi Jaiswal is receiving rich praise from fans as well as experts after hitting back-to-back double-centuries against England in the ongoing five-match Test series. However, the legendary Anil Kumble wants the southpaw to showcase his bowling skills too.

The 22-year-old has 7 wickets in List A cricket from 32 matches, averaging 36.71. In the 2020 edition of the U19 World Cup, Yashasvi, who finished as the highest run-getter, picked up three wickets with his leg-spin bowling. However, he is yet to bowl in international cricket.

Former Indian captain Anil Kumble urged Yashasvi to concentrate on developing his bowling skills during an interaction after the third Test in Rajkot. Kumble also asked the youngster to ask skipper Rohit Sharma to give him some overs to bowl.

"Well done on your batting. But one thing that I have seen which I want you to continue as well is that you have a natural leg spin. Yes, and action. So don't give up on that. Because you never know when that will come in handy. know you've had a back spasm, but when you're working so much on it. Go tell the skipper to give a few overs," Kumble told Jaiswal on JioCinema.

Replying to which, Jaiswal said, "I'm always going and bowling, bowling and bowling. He (Rohit) told me to be ready, and I said yes I am ready."

The Mumbai batter took his time initially during his unbeaten knock of 214 off 236 balls in the Rajkot Test. He battled back spasms and even had to retire hurt on Day 3 after scoring his century. However, he came back to bat on Day 4 and amassed his highest Test score. Jaiswal said that he tries to register big scores once he gets himself set at the crease.

"Test cricket is hard, but I thought that when I'm in there, I need to give my 100 percent. I'm just trying. Whenever I'm set, I try to make it big. Because in Test cricket you never know, when you're playing well, you have to make it big," said Jaiswal.

"It was pretty difficult for me because initially I wasn't getting runs. So had to play the session, and get set. That's when I felt I could score runs. After a while my back was not good. I didn't want to go out (of the field) but since it was too much, I went out. Today when I came, I wanted to make sure that I take the game forward and bat till the end," he added.
