Rajat Patidar failed to deliver with the bat yet again, being dismissed for a six-ball duck in the final innings of the fourth Test against England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Patidar made his Test debut for India in the Vizag Test, with KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja out with injuries and Virat Kohli missing the first two Tests for personal reasons. Notably, the 30-year-old has struggled since his debut, scoring just 63 runs in six innings at an underwhelming average of 10.50.
During the fourth Test, Ollie Pope caught the right-handed batter at backward short leg off Shoaib Bashir. Notably, the latter removed him twice in this Test, dismissing him for 17 (leg before wicket) in the opening innings.
Meanwhile, fans on X (formerly Twitter) trolled Patidar for his second duck in the series. One of the users hilariously wrote, "Happy retirement Rajat Patidar. Have a good second innings of life."
India beat England by five wickets to seal series
Speaking about the game, England scored 353 runs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Joe Root and Ollie Robinson played vital knocks of 122* and 58, respectively for the Ben Stokes-led side. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja claimed four wickets for the hosts, with Akash Deep taking three.
India had a dismal start, but young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a critical 73 runs. However, India's middle-order batters struggled, and when India were on the verge of losing hope, Dhruv Jurel delivered a gritty 90-run knock batting down the order, helping the hosts reach 307 runs. He also shared a 76-run eighth-wicket partnership with Kuldeep Yadav.
Later, Ravichandran Ashwin (5/51) and Kuldeep (4/22) combined to take nine wickets, limiting the tourists to 145 runs. Zak Crawley top-scored for his side, scoring 60 from just 91 deliveries as England set a target of 192 runs for the hosts. Notably, half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill powered India to cross the line in the second session of Day 4.
